Governors Peak
Head out on this 5.7-mile out-and-back trail near Morristown, Arizona. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete. This trail is great for bird watching, hiking, and walking. You'll unlikely encounter many other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are December through April. At the summit, you will find a geocache where you can write your name down and leave something in the tin can.

Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from Phoenix. Start by heading north on I-17, a route that offers stunning views of Arizona's diverse landscapes. After approximately 35 miles, take the exit towards Carefree Highway (State Route 74) and head west. Continue on this road for about 20 miles until the dirt road turnoff for Governor's Peak. Due to the uneven terrain, I recommend a high-clearance vehicle, but the off-road trail is well-maintained (I did it in my Nissan Altima fine). As you venture along this path, the majestic silhouette of Governor's Peak starts to dominate the horizon. Upon reaching the trailhead, you'll find ample parking space. There's no entrance fee, making this hidden treasure accessible to all.
My Recommended Gear List:

7. Multi-tool or knife
8. Headlamp or flashlight with extra batteries
9. Sunscreen and sunglasses
10. Emergency shelter (lightweight tent or bivy sack)
Remember, it's always better to be over-prepared than under-prepared, especially when venturing into remote areas.
