Drink: Basic Camping Coffee
Ingredients:
Ground coffee (pre-measured per cup of water)
Fresh water
Equipment:
A small pot or kettle for boiling water
A coffee maker (options include a portable French press, a pour-over dripper, or even a simple coffee bag)
Instructions:
Boil Water: Begin by heating water in your pot or kettle over a camp stove or open fire. Bring just enough water to a boil based on how much coffee you intend to make.
Brew Your Coffee:
French Press: Add ground coffee to the press, pour boiling water over it, stir, place the lid on with the plunger pulled up, let it steep for about 4 minutes, then slowly press the plunger down.
Pour-Over: Place your pour-over dripper with a filter over a cup, add ground coffee to the filter, and slowly pour boiling water over the grounds in a circular motion, allowing the coffee to drip into the cup below.
Coffee Bag: Like making tea, you can also prepare coffee bags before your trip by placing ground coffee in filter bags and sealing them. Just steep a coffee bag in hot water for a few minutes.
Difficulty: Easy to Moderate
The difficulty depends on the method chosen. A French press or pour-over requires a bit of technique and additional equipment, whereas coffee bags are as simple as making tea.
Weight Level: Light to Moderate
Practicality:
Making coffee while camping is highly practical and can be tailored to suit your weight and space limitations. For minimalist backpackers, coffee bags offer a lightweight, fuss-free solution. For those who prioritize the quality of their morning brew and are willing to carry a bit more, a portable French press or pour-over dripper provides a superior cup of coffee.
